President Obama picks and chooses the oddest issues to champion.
For instance, he completely ignores the Iranian government’s blatant brutalization of its own citizens in the streets, but he declares war on Libya for much murkier charges.
He also doesn’t blink when U.S. citizens who go through airport security are subjected to arbitrary, invasive searches that do less than nothing in combating the disturbingly adaptive techniques of Islamic extremists… But he does care that Texas Governor Rick Perry won’t stop today’s execution of Humberto Leal, a Mexican national who raped and murdered a 16-year-old American girl back in 1994.
Though born in Mexico, Leal lived in the U.S. after he turned two, and nobody notable doubts he committed the crimes; the evidence is apparently overwhelming.
What Obama and others – including George W. Bush, diplomats, top judges, senior military officers and the UN – object to is how the convict didn’t get his proper diplomatic representation during his arrest and subsequent questioning.
I’m sure, politically speaking, it’s a difficult subject to deal with and could cause problems further down the road. At the same time, Mexico doesn’t respect our laws anyway, regardless of whether we bend over backwards for it or not, so why bother?
For that matter, neither does North Korea, Iran and a number of other countries who we might experience similar issues with. How many of our citizens have been thrown into prison in places like that on bogus charges and left to rot for years, if not for good?
And as for the UN, it really has no place to talk about any such thing, considering how it lets disgusting human rights violators like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and countries that encourage human trafficking speak before it all the time… and even join up as members.
However, what I really take issue with is how quickly Obama seems ready to stick up for anything anti-American – from encouraging the America-Is-Evil crowd during his pre-presidential apology tour of Europe to adopting socialism over capitalism every chance he can – but can’t be bothered when it comes to protecting his own.
Liberals may argue that in demanding rights for foreign nationals, he is in fact protecting Americans who travel abroad. But when he bows to foreign leaders as President of the United States and palled around before he took office with the likes of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who preaches that America got what it deserved on 9/11…
Well, it’s kinda hard to swallow that explanation whole.
