President Obama, Solyndra and the Chicago Way

In an ironic twist, President Obama’s support of oil alternatives like solar power is helping to cool his public image. Far from the days when people chanted “Yes, we can” en masse, they’re now getting used to exclaiming “Oh no, he didn’t!”

The latest scandal to hit the headlines centers on Solyndra, the California solar company that got a widely publicized $535 million government loan, despite analysts' misgivings. As those professionals feared and despite the generous help it received, the business went belly up in no time, leaving the taxpayer on the hook for its massive failings.

But instead of taking personal responsibility for poorly – and possibly criminally – allocated funding, Obama is proposing $1.5 trillion in new tax revenue.

In other words, we have to pay for his stupid and/or corrupt mistake.

As obnoxious and destructive as that is though, none of this should come as any surprise. The signs were there long before Obama ever took charge in the Oval Office.

Look at the people he palled around with before becoming president: Reverend Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers – a domestic terrorist – and Tony Rezko – who is very well known for his sleazy and downright illegal politics – just to name a few.

Look at how, during the 2008 elections, Obama went around apologizing for the U.S. to countries who owe their freedom to us. Or how, during that same period, he switched his message from hard-core liberal to right-leaning moderate in order to get votes.

The man is not honest or ethical, and anybody who cared to know the truth could have easily done so well before this point… if they only took the time to vet him.

America didn’t though, and this is what we get: a president who has no qualms about abusing his power to take money from the people to give to his friends.

In his piece, “Obama’s Solyndra scandal reeks of the Chicago Way,” John Kass of the Chicago Tribune writes: “Those of us from Chicago know exactly what the Solyndra scandal smells like. And it doesn’t smell fresh and green.”

In other words, there was another flag we should have paid attention to: the fact that Obama chose to start his political career in Chicago, a den of political iniquity.

And nope, that’s not really an exaggeration. It’s a nationally known fact.

Obama is simply behaving how he would back home in Chicago, an epically screwed up city. And if he has his way, the U.S. is going to turn into an epically screwed up country.

Let’s hope he doesn’t have his way.
