Conservative Christian Republicans Behave a Lot Better Than the Other Side

Conservative publication Hot Air made a very interesting multi-cultural/inter-religious comparison yesterday, one well worth drawing attention to:

“Midtown Manhattan has been the scene of much religious reflection and blasphemy of late. One act of solemn reflection took place at the 140-year-old Central Synagogue on 55th Street, where Jews assembled on Wednesday to observe Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. While they prayed, a few blocks away a man who has called the state of Israel a ‘malignant cancer’ prayed as well—for their and its destruction. In his speech before the United Nations General Assembly (video here), outgoing Iranian ‘President’ Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked God to bring ‘a new order’ that ‘will do away with… everything that distances us.’ If the intent wasn’t clear enough, he later explained in an interview with the Associated Press that he expects that Israel will soon become an ‘historical footnote.’

“Today the blaspheming continues at the Edward Tyler Nahem Gallery on 57th Street, where the state-sponsored ‘artwork’ Piss Christ goes on display for a month. The work, in case you missed the controversy that swirled around its debut in 1987, consists of a photograph of a crucifix floating in the artist’s urine.

“The week has been noteworthy not only for its anti-religious acts but for the conspicuous inaction on the part of those whose faiths were defiled. Jews chose not react to Ahmadinejad’s incendiary remarks by storming the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in New York or by burning the Islamic flag in the streets of Manhattan. Christians did not fire bomb the D.C. headquarters of the National Endowment for the Arts, the government agency that funded the creation of Piss Christ, or demand that its artist, Andres Serrano, be ‘cut up into little pieces’ (the fate suggested by one Muslim protester for the maker of the anti-Islamic film).”

For that matter, it seems that, as a general rule – with some definite exceptions, admittedly – the stereotypical Christian, conservative and/or Republican is much better behaved than the stereotypical non-Christian, liberal and/or Democrat.

Take “controversial” conservative commentator and writer Ann Coulter’s gutsy appearance on the notoriously liberal talk show, “The View.” Touting her new book, Mugged – which details liberals shameless race-mongering on non-racial issues – she graciously and intelligently dealt with comments like:

·         Ann, I need you to tell me what you are trying to say in this book. Because we don’t know what you’re trying to say,” from Joy Behar, who incidentally has wished on past occasions on live TV for Mitt Romney’s house to burn down, and told 2010 GOP Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle that she was a “bitch” who would be “going to hell.”
·         You know what, hold up, Ms. Coulter. Please stop. Please stop. If you’re going to talk about race, at least know what you’re talking about. At least know what you’re talking about. Tell me how much you know about being black?” from Whoopi Goldberg, who has flat-out admitted that she’s “playing the damn race card” before, supposedly after trying and trying to hold it back as a general rule.
·         “You make such divisive comments and incendiary comments and hateful comments at times, it makes people not want to pick up your book and read it,” from Sherri Shepard (who incidentally was adorable on Dancing with the Stars last season), who could then only point out “voter suppression, which is obviously trying to keep black and Latino” people politically enslaved as an example.

It might be shocking that somebody other than a conservative, Christian Republican could possibly behave unreasonably… but the evidence keeps mounting up nevertheless.
