Michelle Obama strikes again with her anorexia-promoting policies.
Evers since her equally overbearing husband took office, she’s been shoving her non-nutritional, high-handed opinions down Americans’ throats: Pressuring restaurants to cut their portion sizes, lecturing incessantly about the evils of obesity, and going on national television to promote the utterly asinine idea that “The greatest national security threat that we have is obesity.”
She’s also been messing around with public school cafeteria menus, dictating what students can and cannot eat. Her latest move is especially controversial, an act of totalitarianism that shows just how narrow-minded and anti-individualistic the liberal mentality really is.
QuotingMilwaukee’s JSOnline: “Following new federal guidelines, school districts nationwide have retooled their menus to meet new requirements to serve more whole grains, only low-fat or nonfat milk, daily helpings of both fruits and vegetables, and fewer sugary and salty items. And for the first time, federal funds for school lunches mandate age-aligned calorie maximums. The adjustments are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 touted by Michelle Obama and use the updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
If that all seems healthy in a country that does have an obesity problem, think again. Because there are several very good reasons why Michelle Obama needs to excuse herself from this table:
· Number One: This mandate covers a wide range of individuals, each a unique combination of male or female, tall or short, athletic or bookish, etc. They also have varying metabolic rates, which can change year to year or even day to day. It’s therefore impossible to just dictate dietary rules and expect everybody to benefit; guidelines are the way to go here.
· Number Two: The food is apparently awful, a detail not only covered in the JSOnline article but also related to me by teachers that I know. Children and faculty alike are actually bypassing the food lines, thereby encouraging binge eating later on in the day.
· Number Three: Forcing people to behave a certain way right down to the foods that they eat is not a step towards building a physically, mentally or psychologically healthy society. On the one hand, it can encourage mindless obedience, the very opposite of a flourishing society, which runs on individual innovation, not predictable monotony (i.e. stagnation). And on the other hand, such infringements on people’s rights can inspire revolutionary attempts, complete with destruction, disorder and even lost lives.
If Michelle Obama wasn’t a bona fide socialist with delusions of grandeur, she would publically recognize those facts and stop trying to force her narrow-minded, slaver mentality (Yes, I went there!) on the American people.
