This whole story about the IRS targeting conservative groups last year is amazing. I’m not surprised that it happened so much – this is after all the same administration responsible for the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal and the shameless botch-up to the Benghazi embassy attack – but that it’s actually being covered by the mainstream media at all.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough was allowed to mention it on his program, Morning Joe, and liberal extremist and New York Times columnist, Maureen Dowd, mentioned it as well, albeit briefly.
Even a reporter from the Associated Press called White House Press Secretary Jay Carney on a discrepancy concerning the inappropriate audits. “The President did use the words ‘if these activities had taken place,’” he noted. “But there has been an acknowledgment on the part of the IRS leadership that these things did indeed occur. I wondered why the President used that phrasing in claiming that it was outrageous.”
Jay Carney being Jay Carney said a lot of nothing in reply. But that’s to be expected.
Again, so is President Obama’s people purposely harassing conservative groups, right down to the IRS demanding the names of high school and college students who attended Linchpins of Liberty down in Tennessee, a conservative political philosophy training course. He did, after all, call us the “enemy” more the once already.
And despite the mainstream media’s current focus, don’t expect much to come out of this.
President Obama will probably get away with this one too.
Why? Bernard Goldberg’s 2008 political commentary, “Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right” comes to mind in trying to answer this question.
Liberals aren’t going to stop doing horridly insane things anytime soon… and conservatives aren’t going to stop letting them get away with it.
