For practically a week now, we’ve been hearing about Michael Brown, the 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri, who was shot by police last Saturday.
We’ve heard how he wasn’t a threat to begin with; that when the cops opened fire, he was raising his hands to show continuing compliance; and that “Brown was African-American. Police have not identified the shooter, but a witness told CNN on Tuesday that the officer who opened fire was Caucasian male.”
Thanks for that helpful reminder CNN. Because society really needs to hear more lies about the value of life being determined by the color of one’s skin and the skin color of one’s attacker. Let’s just fuel the race-baiting a little bit more.
Yet with all of the information swirling around this tragedy, I still don’t know if Brown was innocent. So far, it seems that way. Then again, CNN and its mainstream media affiliates were really quick to blatantly doctor evidence during the whole George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin ordeal, so it’s hard to completely trust them when they tell us otherwise this time around.
Regardless, I am sorry for Brown’s grieving friends and family. The people who are destroying public property and terrorizing the town in protest of his death, however? Not so much. There are better ways to make a societal or political statement… such as perhaps demanding that our elected leaders actually lead.
Just a thought.
On the plus side, those protesters might be getting a clue about their supposed champions, judging by the commentary circulating Twitter [Creatively edited for profanity]:
“Obama, you have done nothing! We need you! You haven’t changed anything! [Go jump off a bridge] y’all!” and “The people of #Ferguson are [exceptionally irritated] at Obama and Al Sharpton via live stream. ‘Didn’t do [bathroom word] for us’ and ‘[Go jump off a bridge, Al] Sharpton.”
Wrong though these protesters are about so much else, they’re right to conclude that their leaders are too focused on their own comforts to care about anything else.
In the midst of this, and while Iraq is burning and our border crisis continues to escalate – in many places unbearably so – President Obama took himself off to Martha’s Vineyard. For yet another vacation and even more rounds of golf (two things he’s becoming very well known for).
As French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius criticized, “I know it is the holiday period in our Western countries, but when people are dying, you must come back from vacation.”
Considering how Obama is now suddenly planning a quick trip back to D.C., Ferguson, Missouri, could conclude that he listens to the French more than he does his own countrymen.
