Are Leggings Pants?

The question is back of whether leggings are pants?

So is the answer. And it’s still no.  Leggings are not pants. They never have been; never will be.

For one of the best explanations as to why, I’m going to turn to the Los Angeles Times, particularly to guest blogger Charlotte Allen, who tackled the tough topic last week.

Discussing how a middle school out in Illinois “has issued a new dress code barring girls from wearing shorts, leggings and yoga pants to school on the grounds that the leg-displaying garments are ‘distracting’ to boys,” she notes that, “judging from the reaction of the feminist media – and here’s what’s really surprising, some parents of the kids in question – you’d think that the school, Haven Middle School, had decided to require head-to-toe burkas.

“The idea seems to be that the Haven dress code is sexist because it makes the girls stop wearing skin-clinging, butt-hugging outerwear instead of making the boys stop looking at and thinking about the girls wearing skin-clinging, butt-hugging outerwear. Indeed, the very idea of having a school dress code for girls is supposed to promote ‘rape culture.’

“Serious! That’s what they’re saying!”

And sure enough, they are. Allen quotes feminist source after feminist source after parent complaining about the horrors of making students dress with some semblance of self-respect.

Then she slams those critics for trying to have it both ways. And she does it beautifully…

Of course schools should insist that boys be polite and should punish harassment of girls severely. But there’s nothing wrong with telling girls to tone it down on their end. For one thing, school is supposed to be a serious environment. Just as we deem shorts and leggings in lieu of pants — perfectly fine in some recreational settings — to be inappropriate wear for most offices, we’re entitled to deem them inappropriate for school, especially middle school.

“One thing that beats me about progressive parents is that so many of them want their daughters to become scientists and college presidents, but they don’t want them to dress or act appropriately in the educational settings that will prepare them for those intellectual professions. They don’t want boys treating their daughters like sex objects, but they don’t mind their daughters turning themselves into sex objects.

“I can understand why the girls who go to Haven wish the dress code would go away so they can dress whichever way they feel like. What I can’t understand is why their parents are egging them on.”

That is hands-down the most well-stated reasoning on the subject I’ve ever heard.

Go, Charlotte Allen.

Vice President Joe Biden Waxes Stupidity About Illegal Immigrants

How stupid is Vice President Joe Biden? For real, I mean?

Let’s analyze a completely non-snarky CNS article that merely reports some of Biden’s latest comments about illegal immigrants/undocumented workers/apparently “already Americans.”

Here goes…

“Vice President Joe Biden, in a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Legislative Summit, on Thursday said the 11 million illegal aliens in the United States ‘are already Americans.

“‘Eleven million people living in the shadows I believe are already American citizens,’ Biden said. ‘These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully, and by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already Americans in my view.’”

They’re already Americans, huh? By what definition of the word? ‘Cause it certainly isn’t any legal definition, hence the reason why they’re called “illegal” immigrants.

Fortunately for small-minded conservatives like me, the Vice President clarified:

“Biden referenced former President Theodore Roosevelt’s 1894 speech titled ‘True Americanism.’

“‘Teddy Roosevelt said it better. He said, Americanism is not a question of birthplace or creed or a line of descent. It’s a question of principles, idealism and character,’ Biden said.”

Oh! Gotcha. So Americanism isn’t about what background you have. It’s about believing that America has something worth holding onto… which most illegal immigrants don’t agree with, considering that they don’t bother to learn our language, and they trend liberal for the distinctly anti-American, anti-American dream, socialist-style government subsidies they get as a result.

Sorry for interrupting, Mr. Vice President. Just needed to clarify. Please, continue…

“Biden compared illegal immigrants to immigrants who legally entered the United States, saying it took ‘a lot of courage’ to pick up and go to America where they don’t speak the language and no one seems to want them.”

Yup. It took a ton of courage to deliberately disobey a sovereign state, slip through borders in the dead of the night and flout our laws that were put there to protect American citizens… if “courage” is translated as “hutzpah.” As for no one seeming to want illegal immigrants here, that might be because they contribute more to gang problems than they do the economy, and they clearly don’t respect our laws.

But I interrupted again. Do go on, Joe.

“‘It takes a whole hell of a lot of courage to be sitting at a wooden kitchen somewhere anywhere in the world and say, you know, I tell you what kids. Let’s all pick up and go to America, where we don’t speak the language, where they don’t seem to want us, where it’s gonna be really, really rough to get there, but let’s go. Won’t that be fun?’ Biden said.”

Ummm… Why a wooden kitchen table? Aren’t most kitchen tables wooden? Why is that detail important? I’m confused. Also, they’re coming here because it’s so rotten where they are. So again, his definition of “courage” is a bit sketchy. Real courage would be trying to make a positive difference in their own countries.

“‘All they want – they just want a decent life for their kids, a chance to contribute to a free society, a chance to put down roots and help build the next great American century. I really believe that. That’s what they’re fighting for,’ Biden added.”

Yeah? You really believe that, Mr. Vice President?

Did you get this information from the illegal immigrants who hassle American women like they’re pieces of meat… while their faithful wives take care of the kids back at home?

Did you get your data from the gangs roaming cities across this nation, terrorizing legal residents?

Or perhaps you took a second to step out of your posh, D.C.-establishment lifestyle to interview the majority of illegal immigrants to see where their allegiances really lie?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Which makes you just as stupid as I thought.

Joan Rivers Calls Size Six Lena Dunham Fat

I can’t stand Lena Dunham.

She’s a blight on femininity, an absolute moron, and generally just irritating to listen to. I could go on, considering how many times she takes her clothes off for the camera, but that would be borderline crass. Despite being completely true.

However, for all of her overwhelming faults, one thing Lena Dunham is not is fat.

Newsflash people: Just because you’re bigger than a size zero does not make you fat. Actually, the same goes for sizes two, four, six, eight and 10. Unless you have particularly unique proportions, you’re probably not fat as a 12 or 14 either. Maybe a little chunky, but hey, chunky can be pretty darn cute.

And it’s a heck of a lot more attractive than seeing someone’s skeletal structure.

I mean… Ew!

I’m going to guess that Lena Dunham is a size six or an eight. Yet she’s been slammed by her fellow morons in Hollywood multiple times for being fat.

The latest one is Joan Rivers, who really shouldn’t be talking about numbers considering that she’s like… What? A hundred and five years old while desperately trying to look like she’s twenty-nine?

Seriously, she reminds me of a line from The Emperor’s New Groove, where Emperor Kuzco introduces “… Yzma, the emperor’s advisor: living proof that dinosaurs once roamed the earth.”

To be fair to Rivers, all of that Botox might have done some serious damage to her brain. That could be why she would go on Howard Stern’s show to tell listeners that Dunham’s oft-spouted  lines about loving yourself the way you are regardless of size, sends “a message out to people saying, ‘It’s okay! Stay fat! Get diabetes. Everybody die. Lose your fingers.”

If that wasn’t dumb enough, Rivers proved what a sizest hag she is by asking how Dunham can “wear a dress above the knee.” In other words, Dunham is too obese to be showing off her legs.

This leads me to stress again that sizes six and eight are not fat. Saying otherwise does a gross disservice to society.

If we’re really worried about sending unhealthy messages to women, how about we tell them that they don’t have to starve themselves to fit into some unrealistic concept of male fantasyland? How about we explain that they’re worth more than the clothes they put on or take off? Or that the party scene probably isn’t where they want to be?

Oh yeah. And while we’re at it, we should probably tell them to stay away from Botox too.

Nick Cannon Goes Whiteface… And Then Gets Racist

If you have any kind of a Yahoo account, you’ve probably already seen that Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey’s husband, decided to do “whiteface.” As in, he’s a black man who painted his skin – rather realistically too, if I might add – to look like he’s white.

As with everything else in life, people took offense at that.

I didn’t. At first.

You see, I could really care less if someone wants to pretend to be something they’re  not, just as long as it’s done with the right attitude. Blackface, whiteface, greenface… Who cares?

I get why blackface used to be offensive, but guess what? Times change; so do meanings.

“Gay” used to mean “happy.” “Kid” used to only refer to a “baby goat.” And religious freedom used to mean the government couldn’t shove its delusions of godhood down our throats.

See what I mean?

That’s why I didn’t take offense when I saw the Yahoo headline about Nick Cannon’s whiteface. In fact, I was going to write a post declaring just how little I took offense. I even barely cared when I read his accompanying Instagram caption:

“It’s official… I’m white!!! #WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft “Bro I got drafted!!”

Sure, the “racialdraft” part might be kinda irritating. Depending on what it means. (I don’t know and I don’t care nearly enough to find out.) But he’s Hollywood. And he married Mariah Carey.

Enough said.

Also, I never knew only white people ate cream cheese? Thanks for that little lesson, Nick.

What I do find far less tasteful is his “white boy” name of “Smallnut.” And his Tweets after people started freaking out on him, such as: “Damn I didn’t know it was going to be this hard being White! … I’m exhausted with all this ‘privilege’ LOL #WhitePeopleProblems” and “I think we should have a million white man march and protest @NickCannon album!!! Somebody call @rushlimbaugh’ LOL”

You know baby boy, you’ve got a million-dollar moron of a wife, meaning that you’ve got a lot more of that “privilege” you’re mocking me for. How about you drop income brackets down to my level and see what my “privilege” really looks like before you start making fun of it.

Survey by Condom Maker Durex Shows 5% Have Checked Facebook While Having Sex

How utterly self-absorbed are we these days?

A new survey by condom maker Durex shows that 5% of us have checked Facebook while having sex.

5%. Seriously?

It would be a sad social commentary if it was 1%. In fact, it’s a sad social commentary that Durex even thought to ask the question in the first place.

What is wrong with people when we interrupt an act that is supposed to be about being close with that special someone by checking our phones to see what people are saying about us?

I’m pretty sure that’s the definition of disgusting.

And really, really pathetic.

If we’re looking to set ourselves up for really lame, really sad, really unfulfilling lives, then we should definitely keep going with this self-absorbed trend we seem so set on following.

Otherwise, how about we put our Facebook accounts away while having sex. Possibly even every once in a while outside of that too.

14-Year-Old Shoots Up Bus in New York City, Kills One

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for shooting a fellow bus passenger dead in New York City yesterday.

Let me repeat that, because it deserves special attention…

A 14-year-old pulled out a gun for no good reason, intentionally aimed it at another human being, intentionally fired six times and ended up shooting someone dead.

That someone wasn’t the person he intended to kill, but the result is still the same; he’s still a murderer. At 14-years old.

What kind of society are we encouraging where this kind of thing is even possible?

CNN's Don Lemon Seeks Crazy Clues on Missing Malaysian Airlines Flight; Viewers Find Black Hole Inside His Head

How ridiculous are our newscasters in the mainstream media these days?

Let me count the ways, starting with the kinda cute but sadly stupid Don Lemon on CNN last night, in which he honestly asked panelists to debate whether the Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 had been sucked up by a black hole.

When I first read that on Mediaite, I figured there had to be some catch the conservative news site wasn’t letting onto in an effort to make CNN look dumber than it actually was.

The written word oftentimes doesn’t tell us everything. It leaves out emphases and tones and pauses, gestures and eye language, all of which can easily change meaning. So when I clicked on Mediaiate’s matching video, I expected to see Don Lemon cast a few smirks and hear him use a condescending air when he began pondering whether black holes might have something to do with the missing airliner.

I mean, I know CNN is filled with idiots, but I was sure they couldn’t be THAT stupid and desperate for attention.

Boy, was I wrong.

Maybe there was a slight twinkle in his eye when he started the segment. Maybe.

But his tone was perfectly serious when he said “I know it’s preposterous” and then turned to his panel and asked “But is it preposterous?”

Mind you, he asked this not only about black holes, which are a rare scientific phenomenon only ever found in outerspace, but also the Bermuda Triangle – which is around… ummm… Bermuda… so not quite the area where the flight disappeared – and even the TV show “Lost.”

Why? Because people were Tweeting about it.

I kid you not.

If there are indeed any black holes lurking on planet Earth, I think we just found one… right inside Don Lemon’s head.

Obamacare Enlists Celebrity Moms to Coax Young People Into Buying Health Insurance

Young people aren’t flocking to Obamacare the way they were supposed to, largely because young people don’t feel like they need healthcare for one reason or another.

Whatever their rationale, whether intelligent or foolish, it’s ultimately their decision.

At 31, I’m not sure if I count in the “young people” category anymore. But like so many “real” young people, I don’t have health insurance. Why? Because I considered my individual circumstances and decided I could skip that particular cost until further review.

That’s my choice. It’s my right. I’m an adult. I can make my own decisions without some nanny state government telling me what to do and what not to do. And guess what? The same goes for a 24-year-old fresh out of college.

We’re supposed to be thinking for ourselves at this age. We don’t need celebrity moms and the ever-condescending Michelle Obama telling us “We nag you because we love you. Go to healthcare.gov and enroll today.”

Yet that’s exactly what they’re doing. The mothers of Jonah Hill, Adam Levine, Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys are all telling us that they’re worried about “young people” who “feel invincible… until something actually happens… And unfortunately, things do happen.”

“Trust us,” they say. “Us moms put up with a lot. But one thing we should never have to put up with is our kid not having health care.”

Trust you? You guys raised over-sexualized, over-privileged, materialistic ninnies who can’t think for themselves apart from the brainless Hollywood collective.

Why in the world should we trust you moms – who don’t actually know we exist much less understand our individual circumstances – with our life decisions when you clearly couldn’t even handle your own kids?

Not to mention that you’re only promoting Obamacare to “young people” because our nanny-state President asked you to. And the only reason why he asked you to do that is because he can’t fund his socialist agenda without digging into healthy individuals’ wallets.

And who has a better chance of being healthy? Young people!

Either Jonah Hill, Adam Levine, Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys' mothers are too stupid or lazy to understand that reality, or they know and just don’t care.

Either way, they’re clearly bad moms… who really need to get out of our faces.

Sheila Jackson Lee Says Something Really Dumb Again (i.e. She Opened Her Mouth)

Stupidity can be exceptionally embarrassing, especially when that stupidity is coming out of the mouth of Representative Sheila Jackson Lee… which means it’s rather emotionally excruciating whenever she opens her mouth.

Considering how she’s not only been elected but also re-elected a few times now, it seems safe to say that the majority of constituents in Texas’ 18th congressional district are a bane on this country’s existence. And dumber than bricks, much like Sheila Jackson Lee herself, who stood up before the House the other day to:

“Maybe… offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.”

Let’s forget for a moment her repetitive and therefore meaningless drivel about “a Constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.” Let’s even set aside the fact that she is constantly voting to flush that very same Constitution down the toilet.

Even being that gracious, she’s still an absolute embarrassment.

Here she is, an elected member of The United States House of Representatives and a woman who has made a career out of American politics… Yet she doesn’t even know the general century – not the date or even the year, mind you. The century! – that our nation became a nation.

Exceptionally gracious pansies might point out that everyone makes a mistake or two when giving speeches. And exceptionally gracious pansies would be right about that to some degree.

But this is hardly Sheila Jackson Lee’s first time on the stupid-mobile. She’s also the one who asked NASA whether the Mars Rover could zoom in on “the flag the astronauts planted there before.”

Sure, Sheila. Why not. Let’s zoom the Mars Rover camera on a flag planted on the moon.

According to FrontPageMag, she’s also the loony who complained that hurricane names were racist. That we needed to represent “all racial groups” when naming such destructive forces.

Yeah, ‘cause that’ll show the KKK. You go, girl!

I watched the video of her saying the Constitution was 400-years-old, and my face is still red.

Kids, do yourself a favor and just read about how dumb this woman is. Watching the video is just too embarrassing.

What Little Girls Are Made of These Days Thanks to the Liberal Agenda

Sugar and spice and everything nice is most definitely not what little girls are made of anymore, if they ever were.

The liberal agenda long ago proclaimed women victims, demanding special treatment for them because of their gender alone and what people – mainly men and conservatives, the two great, lasting evils of the world – have done to that gender.

Too many women ate that message up, either with a substantial appetizer of bitterness or a heaping side dish of gullibility. And so they started to behave like they deserved special recognition because they were born female.

Do you know what that kind of victim mentality does? It either turns people into malleable children who can’t stand up on their own and instead allow others to support and ultimately use them.

Or it oddly turns people into bullies who victimize others. Essentially, they’re told they deserve everything and so they try to take exactly that.

Over the last few years, there have been plenty of stories about girls acting like savage little thugs, hurting people because they can. From those Baltimore brats back in 2011 who brutalized a transgendered person to the Chicago cretins who viciously attacked and robbed two taxi drivers last year, teenaged girls are behaving like rabid animals that need to be put down.

The latest example comes from Maryland – again – this time in St. Mary’s County, where a 17-year-old and 15-year-old stabbed a mentally impaired 16-year-old boy, dragged him by his hair, sexually assaulted him and made him walk on a partially frozen pond so that he fell through the ice several times… recording the torture on their cell phones.

I don’t care how many times men have hurt women throughout history – and let’s face it, it’s been a lot. I don’t even care how messed up these particular girls’ personal lives are – and more than likely, they’re exceedingly messed up.

There is no excuse to do what they did to that poor boy. None. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

This is what the liberal agenda does though. It doesn’t help victims. It just makes more of them.

Inequality Rates in the U.S., Climate Change and a Liberal Lack of Accountability

Let’s start today’s blog out with a few paragraphs of a Breitbart article on U.S. inequality rates:

“The top five states with the highest income inequality rates all voted to reelect President Barack Obama, though no state boasted a higher rate of inequality than Washington, D.C. This is according to a study released this week by MoneyRates.com.

“The study used data from the Bureau of Labor statistics to measure how many times more money the top-earning income bracket of a state made than bottom earners. Researchers compared the top 25th percentile earner to the bottom 25th percentile earner and divided the sums into each other, then ranked states by number. California, in which a top 25th percentile earner makes 2.55 times more than a bottom 25th percentile earner, is by far the most unequal state, followed by New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and President Obama’s home state of Illinois.

“In Washington, D.C., however, a top 25th percentile earner makes 2.6 times the amount of money a bottom 25th percentile earner makes, which represents the biggest gap in the nation.”

So what are the oh-so-compassionate Democrats doing about those discrepancies, which they like to say they care about?

They’re going to ignore it. Why? Because there are more important things to ponder over all-night meetings, like the perils of global warming after a record-setting frigid winter complete with multiple government-closing snowstorms.

I suppose anything makes sense when you’re determined to believe the liberal agenda though. Anything but the truth, that is.

Hence the reason Virgin CEO Richard Branson recently blogged that people who don’t believe in global warming should “get out of our way”… even though his airline alone is responsible for emitting over 7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide over the years.

7 million metric tons! But Branson wants US to get out of HIS way?

At least we conservatives put our money where our mouths are. There’s no such accountability amongst liberals. They talk a really loud talk about the subjects they claim they care about, yet walk a very different walk.

That’s why the government can lament the sorry state minorities are in today, then turn around and sic the FCC on those “automatically disadvantaged” individuals if they step out of Big Brother’s line, making things as difficult as possible for black conservatives. (Actually, the government makes things as difficult as possible for most blacks; it just takes a more clear-cut route when those blacks vote Republican.)

That’s why Sharyl Attkisson is quitting CBS after working there for a decent two decades. There’s no accountability, and liberals are quick to punish anyone who tries to enforce it.

Obama Can’t Spell Respect Correctly

Thursday night, President Obama showed Aretha Franklin, his assembled guests at a White House “Women of Soul” tribute, America and the rest of the world, that he doesn’t know how to spell the word “Respect.”

Despite the catchy song he directly referred to as he spoke – which literally spells it out in clear English – Obama forgot to put the first E in there, saying “R-S-P-E-C-T” instead.

Go figure.

‘Cause he certainly doesn’t know how to practice it.

No wonder world leaders like Vladimir Putin don’t give him any R-E-S-P-E-C-T (or R-S-P-E-C-T, for that matter) in return.

See Just How Little Our Government Cares About the Little People

Every once in a while, I come across an article on Yahoo!’s home page that’s actually worth reading.

Even rarer are the times when one is worth commenting on. But this one is so interesting that I’m pretty much just going to paste the lead below and let you click the link to read the rest, should you so choose, to see just how little our government cares about the little people.

“America is rich again – if you add up all the money. But a familiar, unhappy tale is playing out as the nation recovers the household wealth lost from 2007 to 2012.

“The total amount of household net worth hit a new record of $80.7 trillion at the end of 2013, according to the Federal Reserve. That’s certainly better than the grueling declines that occurred during the twin housing and stock-market busts. But a deeper look at the numbers shows that the kind of wealth held primarily by the affluent – financial assets – has soared beyond prior levels, while the most common middle-class asset – home equity – is still far below prior highs.

“Here are the numbers:

Total amount of financial wealth now: $66.9 trillion. Pre-recession high: $54.3 trillion (third quarter of 2007). Change since then: 23% increase.

Total amount of real-estate wealth now: $22 trillion. Pre-recession high: $25 trillion (fourth quarter of 2006). Change since then: 11.9% decline.

“The changes aren’t quite as stark if you adjust for inflation:

Total change in real financial assets from the pre-recession peak: 9.7% increase.

Total change in real real-estate assets: 7.8% decline.

“Still, it’s clear the more securities and other financial assets you have, the more you’ve benefited from the asset relation that has come at least in part from the Fed’s super-easy-money policies. When you factor in homeownership rates, the flow of wealth to upper-income Americans may be even greater…”

If you don’t have the time to read the rest of the article, let me break it down for you…

In its high-handed pursuits, our government might like to say – and possibly even think – that it’s helping the little people. But the only ones who are really benefiting are the rich.

Hillary Clinton 2016 Because… Ummm… Well, There Has to Be SOME Reason, Right?

At the recent Democratic Executive Committee Winter Meeting, attendees were gung-ho about Hillary Clinton running in the 2016 presidential elections.

They were certain she’d make an excellent choice. They just weren’t sure why.

The most coherent answer anyone was able to come up with was “her abortion standpoint.” And let’s face it: Every democrat with a chance of getting the party nod for president has that same exact position. So “her abortion standpoint” doesn’t set her apart any more than the rest of her unremarkable track record.

One particularly lackluster answer received was: “… she’s spent eight years in the White House… and she spent four years as the foreign policy guru for The United States.”

Time served is the next best thing they can come up with? Apparently so, as that’s exactly what another person said in a separate interview. And I quote: “All her foreign affairs experience as secretary of state [and] being a heart away from the President for eight years when her husband” was in office.

As to what exactly made her so admirable in that secretary of state position? Well, you could almost hear birds chirping when that question was asked.

One person admitted, “in particular, I honestly don’t know, to answer your question. But I thoroughly believe that there was a reason Obama put her there,” while another one hedged, “Actually, it’s more she didn’t create a problem.”

I really hope if I ever run for President, my most ardent supporters can say nicer things about me than, “Well, you know, she didn’t screw anything up.”

Incidentally, in Hillary’s case, even that pathetic attempt can’t cut it, no matter how many times especially misinformed enthusiasts express the claim that we’re “a little bit more at ease with our folk in the Middle East” because of Ms. Clinton.

In rebuttal to that belief, I’d like to point out Exhibit A: the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, where our embassy was stormed and our ambassador slaughtered and paraded through the streets.

Exhibit B can be all the stats showing how much more disliked we are in the Middle East since Obama took office. Hillary hasn’t helped those numbers one bit as far as anyone can tell.

Hillary Clinton is unremarkable at best. At worst, she’s an abject failure.

Hardly someone worth running for President of the United States… in 2016 or any other time.

18-Year-Old Woman Sues Parents for Living Expenses After She Moves Out in a Huff

An 18-year-old New Jersey woman – and yes, at 18, she’s a woman, not a girl anymore – is suing her parents after they kicked her out of the house on her last birthday.

All of that brings up two very good questions:

1.      What is she suing them for?
2.      Why did they kick her out of the house?

Well, the plaintiff, a Ms. Rachel Canning, is demanding that her parents continue to pay for her living expenses – including transportation – and fork over the college tuition money they’ve been putting aside for her.

Why did the elder Cannings kick her out of the house? Considering the answer to question number one, answer number two shouldn’t be all that surprising…

She was being a brat.

According to her parents, she refused to follow the rules, which included rethinking her relationship with a bad-news boyfriend, being respectful and following curfew. And when they gave her an ultimatum, she chose to leave and has been staying with her best friend’s family ever since.

Incidentally, it’s her best friend’s father who is heading up the lawsuit.

Try as hard as I might, I can’t think of a single excuse for Canning to be suing her parents. She’s an adult and they have no fiscal, legal or even necessarily ethical requirements to give her money at this point. Not from the racket she’s running, at least.

Even if they were horrible parents up until she turned 18, she should still have no real legal standing for this kind of a lawsuit.

Judging by her behavior, they might be horrible parents. They certainly seem to have raised an entitled brat, though that might not have been their fault. I genuinely don’t know.

What I do know is that if Canning wants to do things her own way, she should get used to the idea of paying for those things her own way.

It’s called being an adult, cupcake. Grow up already.

Disney Throws Some Subliminal Messages at Children in Frozen

If you’ve seen Disney’s latest animated movie, Frozen, you know of the song “Let It Go.”

From a musical standpoint, the score is fairly amazing. I could listen to one particular version of the song, performed by Alex Boye, over and over again. Actually, I have listened to that version over and over again. And I’m sure I’ll listen to it some more in the days ahead.

It’s nothing short of exquisite.

But here’s the thing about a song with a fairly amazing musical score… Listen to it enough, and you’re going to hear the lyrics eventually. And these lyrics are fairly disturbing, particularly when they’re being marketed to children.

Take a few lines from the opening verse:

“The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside / Couldn’t keep it in / Heaven knows I’ve tried.”

Why is that scary? Set by itself, I suppose it isn’t really. But consider the song’s lyrical progression, which next says:

“Don’t let them in / Don’t let them see / Be the good girl you always had to be…”

As if being a “good girl” is uninspiring, or behaving well is shamefully denying oneself.

Think I’m reading into things? Keep listening to the song as it urges our youth to:

“Let it go, let it go / Can’t hold it back anymore / Let it go, let it go / Turn away and slam the door / I don’t care what they’re going to say…”

Getting the big picture now? It took me a decent dozen times, possibly more, to catch on, but I’m fairly sure I finally got the message they’re trying to drill into young impressionable minds.

It’s that self-destructive “Be Yourself” mantra. The one that tells children to shun authority and convention and restrictions, encouraging them to embrace freedom instead.

All of that sounds awesome until you see the fine print below the slogan, which doesn’t just warn that, as a result of downing this prescription, kids might experiment with sex and alcohol well before they’re mature enough to handle them. It promises those consequences.

It promises that they’ll adopt unhealthy attitudes and lifestyles that lead to depression, suicide, violence and ultimate purposelessness. It promises that they’ll make a mess out of their lives and their children’s lives in the process.

And it wraps those horrible promises in a palatable coating for all of us to swallow with a smile.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Freaks Out on Conservative Group for Questioning the Necessity of Fighting Global Warming

Apple CEO Tim Cook has just come out and said that businesses should run on more than the pursuit of profit. “We want to leave the world better than we found it.”

That by itself is a noble sentiment. It’s even healthy.

Speaking as someone who works for a company driven almost entirely by the pursuit of profit, treating its employees badly and lying to its customers, constantly compromising its stated goals in an attempt to make the most out of every dollar… I would love to applaud Mr. Cook.

I would love to. But I can’t considering the context of his little impassioned speech.

At a recent shareholders meeting, the National Centre for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) – a conservative think tank that invests some significant money into Apple – brought up Apple’s habit of throwing money at green energy projects that turn daisies instead of profits.

The perfectly practical question resulted in an apparently heated answer. Cook pretty much told them to shove it:

“If you want me to do things only for ROI [return on investment] reasons, you should get out of this stock.”

If he believes that firmly in the evils of global warming and wants to commit his company’s bottom line to fighting such a dreadful fate, well… It’s a free country.

He’s more than welcome to believe whatever he wants to believe in, even when all the actual data suggests that we’re entering a mini-ice age if anything.

After all, while he was freaking out on his backers, weathermen were predicting yet another nasty bout of snowstorms for the East Coast and the Great Lakes were in the middle of completely freezing over.

He probably just didn’t notice any of that because he was getting so hot under the collar at the nerve of investors daring to ask he handle their money with some intelligence... which, incidentally, is just a healthy concept as keeping profit in proper perspective.
