Southern Poverty Law Center Labels Ben Carson an Extremist, Then Kinda Takes It Back

I didn’t know a thing about the Southern Poverty Law Center until reading The Daily Caller’s article “Southern Poverty Law Center Apologizes To Ben Carson For Putting Him On Its ‘Extremist’ List.”

But now I know that they’re a bunch of extremists themselves. You have to be die-hard bigots in order to label Ben Carson that way.

I don’t mean because the man is an embodiment of the American Dream and a flat-out genius. I mean, I could note how he was a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics, not to mention the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the first surgeon to effectively separate conjoined twins who were attached at the head.

But his accomplishments wouldn’t prove anything. What does is how respectfully he states his opinions and how those opinions haven’t come close to preaching violence against anyone.

All the same, the Southern Poverty Law Center heard him make comments like “Marriage is between a man and a woman; it’s a well-established pillar of society,” and decided that was akin to defacing people’s property, classifying groups as sub-human and terrorizing innocents.

I’m not kidding. There are members of the KKK who are also on this “Extremist Files” list. Which means that, in this organization’s mind, voicing Christian values is all-but illegal.

The Daily Caller reports: “The SPLC placed Carson on the list in October, but the designation was not widely noticed until last week when it was flagged by the blog Legal Insurrection… In its statement announcing the reversal, the SPLC said it had “reviewed” its profile and found that Carson’s positions did not “meet the criteria necessary for its extremist designation.”

As if there was anything to review in the first place. This should have been a clear-cut case of mistaken classification… a red-faced moment of wondering “How the heck did that happen?”

But nope, after apologizing for posting it, the Southern Poverty Law Center had to add that “We’ve also come to the conclusion that the question of whether a better-researched profile of Dr. Carson should or should not be included in our ‘Extremist Files’ is taking attention from the fact that Dr. Carson has, in fact made a number of statements that express views that we believe most people would conclude are extreme.”

Oh totally, Southern Poverty Law Center! I read you loud and clear. That man is one step away from being downright dangerous.

I know I’m scared.
