Kate Middleton’s Greying Hair Is Apparently a “Disaster”

ISIS in the Middle East (and apparently here in the U.S.)…

Illegal aliens flooding our borders, committing (more) crimes and draining our resources…

A government consisting of both Democrats and Republicans who refuse to consider anything beyond their own agendas…

I’d call all of those disastrous. Yet celebrity hairstylist Nicky Clarke would like to present his own definition of that word: women with grey hair. At least women with grey hair who aren’t “really old.”

Yup! That’s right. Grey hair on a woman is apparently appalling, even on a woman with the money and fame and personality of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

That’s who Clarke was directly referring to when he made a string of ridiculously sexist and absurd statements. But don’t feel too bad, Kate; he went on to lump all women into the mix.

Here’s some more of his caveman comments, as reported by Daily Mail:

·         “Kate needs to get rid of her grey hair – it’s not a good look.”
·         “She does have amazing things done to her hair and it can look great, but unfortunately it’s the case for women – all women – that until you’re really old, you can’t be seen to have any grey hairs.”
·         “It’s different for men. Men can go grey in their mid-50s and still be considered attractive – it’s the whole silver fox thing – but it’s not the same for women.”
·         “Kate is such a style icon that even a few strands of grey would be a disaster, so I highly recommend that she cover it up. I hate grey hair.”

One could say that’s the sexist stupidity of a single celebrity-related individual. Except that… newsflash… it’s not. This comes on the heels of Yahoo’s article yesterday on “Hollywood’s Knee Anxiety: Ironing Out Those ‘Kninkles.’” The gist was that Hollywood is so obsessed with women’s physical perfection that stars are now having plastic surgery done on their knees.

So no grey hairs and no knee-wrinkles or ‘kninkles’ allowed. On women. Because we’re meant to be eye-candy until the day we die. It’s the only way we can have any real worth in life.

I’m so glad that Hollywood has opened my eyes. I’ll stop caring about those faux-disasters like ISIS, immigration-gone-wild and an egotistical government bent on monarchy, focusing on my hair and knees instead.

I’ll leave thinking about anything else to the men, who can look good with grey hair in their 50s.

Racism in All Its Forms

This morning, these three extended headlines on the Drudge Report grabbed my attention:

My thoughts, respectively, upon seeing those extended headlines were:

·         That’s horrible! Maybe I shouldn’t write about it.
·         An illegal committing a crime? Wow. Who’da thunk?
·         So a man gets a year in jail for killing ducks, but Planned Parenthood is praised by the president of The United States for killing babies. Lovely.

I’m going to focus on that first reaction to that first headline though, blatantly overruling my initial concerns.

You see, I had those initial concerns because of all the racist rhetoric going around these days. And not the kind by whites against blacks. I’m talking about by whites and blacks against whites. It’s so prevalent that I’m getting gun-shy about feeding into it further.

Which is really sad when the people at that birthday party deserve the same consideration as any other set of victims, and the perpetrators deserve what they get. It shouldn’t matter who was black and who was white.

Yet it feels like it does. It feels like, by acknowledging it, it’s going to fuel the hateful philosophy that whites are all racist. That blacks can’t be; that they’re all underprivileged and we’re all over-privileged because American society is anti-black and pro-white.

Which, I just don’t agree with. Not when the president is black. Not when my mother lived in the Philadelphia ghetto during the 1960s race riots. Not when the news reflects an anti-white bent that caters to criminals instead of allowing for the possibility that maybe “goodness” isn’t dependent on skin color: that it’s character that counts, and character comes in all pigmentation.

So yeah, I hesitated at addressing this headline and subsequent new story.

And that’s just as tragic as the actual crime.

How Not to Do Christianity

Friday was a lesson on how not to do Christianity, thanks to a fellow blogger who left a rude comment on one of my posts.

I’m not calling it rude because I disagreed with it. My issue was that it had nothing to do with my subject matter. It was a paragraphs-long ramble that linked to the commenter’s own blog. On my site. Without my permission.

That irritated me enough to email him the following:

Dear Steve,

While I do sincerely appreciate people commenting on my blog posts at Words From the Right, I don't appreciate or allow people to get blatantly off topic or promote themselves for no other purpose than promoting themselves.

Please respect my space and keep your comments relevant going forward.

Sincerely,

Jeannette

Here’s what he wrote back:

I’m promoting Jesus. Not myself.

I had to laugh at the pretentiousness. Then I replied with:

For real? That’s your argument?

It’s a good thing that I’m a Christian, because otherwise I’d be so turned off by Christianity right now. And it would be thanks to you. Stop being so pretentious.

While there’s hope for future growth, he kept the pretention at least temporarily turned up with his next response:

Jennette, I will be praying for you. I hope you find God’s truth. In Christ Steve

That made me laugh even harder. And no, it wasn’t due to his Freudian slip of a grammatical error, where he wound up calling himself “Christ.” It was because of who he said that to: Me.

I’m a Bible-believing, born-again conservative Christian who takes God’s Word seriously from start to finish. I’m not being pretentious myself when I say that I know God’s truth. And, among other things, God’s truth says not to be a Pharisee (i.e. a pretentious hypocrite) who “promotes” God in words alone.

So after I’d stopped laughing, I ended the conversation with this:

Already know it, but thanks so much!

I guess I should have also thanked him for a great blog post. And a demonstration on how not to do Christianity.

P.S. All jokes aside, there is a truth out there. And yes, it’s God’s truth. But there’s also a way to present it, which isn’t by shoving it down people’s throats and then acting like they’re the only ones who need to change when they don’t kiss our feet for spreading the good news.

I’ll go a step further by saying that’s a lesson non-Christians should learn as well. Most Christians are not like Steve. The stereotype that we’re judgmental jerks is simply not correct. It’s a pharisaical excuse considering the number of judgmental non-Christian jerks.

In short, the world would be a much better place if we all checked our pretentions at the door. We’re going to have to check them eventually anyway. Why not now?

“White Lives Matter” Is Controversial?

“Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.”

That’s what former Baltimore City mayor, former Maryland governor and current Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley said after being interrupted by Black Lives Matter protestors at a recent forum.

Now, there shouldn’t be anything controversial about that statement. It should be a given: a truth so universal it’s without reproach. Yet it’s too often not acknowledged as one, as O’Malley found out the hard way last week.

He was booed so long and so loud for those simple statements that he never really got another word in edgewise. Apparently, the prevalent opinion at that event – and too many places elsewhere – is that all lives don’t matter, or at least they don’t matter equally.

New as this movement claims to be, its core belief sounds strangely familiar. Like it’s plagiarizing from a long list of racists, sexists and every other bigot who’s ever walked this Earth, including but hardly limited to:

·         White Americans toward black Americans in the 19th century
·         20th century white German attitudes toward mostly white or “white-looking” Jews and Russians.
·         20th century black Rwandan Hutus toward black Rwandan Tutsis.
·         White Normans (French origins) toward white Saxons (English origins) in the Middle Ages
·         White English to the white Irish or the white Scottish in the Middle Ages
·         First-century Romans against Christians

Throughout history, people have made it a point to oppress others for their own political, social, financial or personal gain. And they’ve come up with whatever lame reason they could think up, from skin color to nationality to gender to origins to location to belief systems.

So Black Lives Matter movement? Don’t think you’re so special, either as the oppressed or the oppressor. For that matter, don’t think you’re so special at all.

Your black lives don’t matter any more or any less than my white life does.

In other words, get over yourself.

If that’s controversial, then welcome to the next wave of oppression. Hope you enjoy it.

What a Bunch of Inspirational Morons

Sometimes the inspirational philosophies people subscribe to – and then post on Facebook – makes me want to scream. I’m talking about stupid sayings, like:

“Nothing happens to you. Everything happens for you.”

My automatic response: Oh, really? So getting raped is actually a gift? Losing your five-year old to cancer is really a positive? Watching your house burn down is, in fact, a blessing?

Wonderful! I’m sure everyone who’s experienced heartbreaking tragedy can now feel peachy.

I’m not saying we can’t learn from life. And I’m not saying we can’t grow from it. But that bit of bull is one of the most insensitive things I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

Speaking of which, here’s another round of inspirational nonsense.  In reaction to a meme that reads: “Shout out to all the beautiful women who don’t need to dress half naked to get a man’s attention, some delusional – but inspirational – nitwit put the following together: “Shout out to all the beautiful women who don’t need to dress half naked to get a man’s attention degrade other women to validate themselves… stay classy!!!”

My response: DO YOU HALF-NAKED WOMEN HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH WORSE YOU’RE MAKING IT FOR YOUR GENDER BY DRESSING LIKE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET IS YOUR BODY?

I mean, seriously. When you walk around advertising your sexuality to a bunch of visually stimulated men already prone to lowering their standards, what do you think is going to happen? They’re going to compliment your personality?

Hint: Probably not.

If your brain is still too mired in “inspiration,” here’s the plain-as-day answer: No. As a whole, they’re going to accept the “clearance” label you stamped on yourself and then label every other woman the same way. Which means you’re doing me an enormous disservice, then have the nerve to say I’m degrading you.

Or how about this priceless jewel: “A person hates you for one of three reasons: 1) They want to be you. 2) They hate themselves. 3) They see you as a threat.”

My response: 4) You’re an absolute moron. 5) You’re an absolute jerk. 6) You spend your time thinking up ways to destroy logic in order to make yourself feel better about your poor intellectual skills.

Sheesh! With all of that “inspiration” flying around, I’m inspired to give up on humanity.

In Obama’s America

What does Obama’s America look like? Six years into his presidency, here’s what’s going on…

In Obama’s America, a United States military recruitment center right here at home can be targeted by terrorists, leaving five officers dead; yet the White House won’t fly its flag at half-mast in their memory.

Because here in Obama’s America, we’re not supposed to care about our military men and women. They’re bad, while terrorists just had difficult childhoods.

Speaking of terrorists… In Obama’s America, our government makes deals with Iran, one of the most vicious and dangerous anti-American foreign powers of our time, and then is surprised when groveling doesn’t earn its respect, trust and love.

Because here in Obama’s America, logic isn’t encouraged. (Besides, America always needs to grovel. A little more groveling, we’re told, will do the trick.)

In Obama’s America, we pour money into making friends with our enemies – who, again, are going to hate us one way or the other – but ignore our veterans who have served to protect us. Yup, there’s more negative attention directed at the Department of Veterans Affairs, this time by a whistleblower who says it’s intentionally barring thousands of applicants from receiving healthcare benefits.

Because here in Obama’s America, we need that money to set agendas, not keep promises.

And in Obama’s America, while we’re pouring money that we don’t have into deals we don’t need with foreign countries that are blatantly using us, our own population is suffering. New findings from the Annie E. Casey Foundation show that, while 18% of children in The United States were living in poverty back in 2008, 22% were as of 2013.

And considering all the violence we’ve experienced in the last two years from cities and towns filled with adults and children who have nothing better to do than riot, don’t bet on a stronger 2015 showing when that data comes out.

Because here in Obama’s America, things aren’t getting better, no matter how many times they tell you otherwise. They’re getting worse.

And worse.

And worse.

That was always in the cards for Obama’s America. Because Obama’s America was never America at all.

Two Things to Take Away From Tennessee Terrorist Attack

You might not be able to see the sign in the photo below, so click on it to see the bigger picture.

When you do, you’ll notice that – amidst all the terrorist-created bullet holes – it reads: “FEDERAL INSTALLATION. FIREARMS ARE PROHIBITED IN THIS FACILITY.”

I’m pretty sure that’s the definition of tragic irony right there.

I’m also pretty sure it serves as two blatant signs of how damaging Obama’s positions are for this country.

Number 1: Despite what the president says, banning guns doesn’t stop gun violence. It can’t when it does nothing to stop criminals from using guns; it only limits law-abiding citizens, as evidenced by the terrorist attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where a drug-using, drunk-driving-convicted, 24-year-old Muslim by the name of Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez opened fire on a military recruiting center, killing four, fatally wounding a fifth and injuring at least two others.

By law, there were no weapons present for the purpose of defense. Only to offend and assault.

You wouldn’t know that from listening to Obama or his media minions, of course. As far as I’m aware, Obama is ignoring what just happened, instead sending out a friendly Happy Ramadan message to Muslims everywhere.

Which brings me to my second point…

Number 2: We’re at war with radical Islam.

We’re not at war with all Muslims, but we also shouldn’t be out to kiss up to them. Islam has unfortunately proven to be a religion that breeds an alarming amount of hatred. Hatred of America. Hatred of women. Hatred of freedom.

Not trying to be offensive here, but after how-many terrorist attacks by Muslims in the last six years, it’s insane to conclude anything else.

Yet President Obama refuses to acknowledge the obvious, no matter how many acts of terrorism are committed on his watch. (If your PC training has affected your memory, click here for a reminder. It’s a painfully long list.)

So how do I conclude this particular blog post? I guess I’ll do so by saying this: It’s a real shame so many people have to get damaged so that one man can play God with American lives.

San Francisco Murder Victim of Illegal Immigrant Gets No Love From Obama

Kathryn Steinle is dead, killed on a San Francisco pier by an illegal immigrant.

As far as the public is aware at this time, the fatal shooting was unprovoked. Steinle and her father were just standing there when Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez decided he could get away with anything, including murder.

To some degree, you can’t blame him for that assumption. He’d already been arrested and deported multiple times, with no serious consequences and an unguarded door right back into the U.S. If I was a criminal with that track record, who knows, I might try pushing my luck too. Especially in San Francisco.

That Californian locale is a so-called “sanctuary city,” which means it doesn’t work with federal immigration officials or adhere to immigration laws. All are welcome there, including lawbreakers, violent and otherwise.

Then again, I have no idea why San Francisco bothers with the title anymore considering how President Obama has declared the entire country a “sanctuary city” these days. That’s probably the reason why he’s ignoring the Steinle murder altogether.

As Breitbart points out, “Nearly two weeks after 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle was murdered on San Francisco’s Pier 14 by an illegal alien and convicted felon who was released from prison earlier this year, President Barack Obama has failed to contact the victim’s family or mention her in public. Yet Obama took the time to write (and release) 46 personal letters this month to felons imprisoned for non-violent drug offenses whose sentences he had commuted.”

Now, supporters might argue that ignoring the murder of one random citizen is a completely different matter than issuing executive pardons. And I can see some validity to that point. But how about this…

Obama and his office mentioned Michael Brown in multiple national addresses, and went so far as to reach out to Michael Brown’s family after the not-so-innocent young man was shot and killed last year while attacking a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. He was also quick to weigh in on Trayvon Martin, another black teenager with a rap sheet.

Yet when a nice white girl gets killed by someone who had no business being here in the first place? There’s radio silence. You can practically hear the crickets chirping serenely.

Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not calling Obama racist. I genuinely don’t think he cares about black lives any more than he does whites or Hispanics or Middle Easterners or anyone else other than himself.

All I’m doing is calling him the worst president ever.

President Obama Wins With Iran Nuclear Deal Agreement; America Loses as Usual

The Iran nuclear deal has been passed by President Obama’s team and the five other world powers working with him.

According to the president, this means that Iran is “cut off” from building a nuclear weapon.

According to CBS DC, “The accord will keep Iran from producing enough material for a nuclear weapon for at least 10 years and impose new provisions for inspections of Iranian facilities, including military sites. And it marks a dramatic break from decades of animosity between the United States and Iran, countries that alternatively call each other the ‘leading state sponsor of terrorism’ and the the Great Satan.’

According to any sensible person, we’ve just made it a whole lot easier for Iran to obliterate us. Again, this is the “leading state sponsor of terrorism” that calls us “the Great Satan.” You really think it wants to play nice?

Hell no! With an emphasis on the “hell,” since that’s exactly where it wants to send us.

There isn’t a thing that Iran has done in the last 25 years that indicates it’s reasonable or trustworthy.

Of course, if Iran was reasonable, it wouldn’t bother to obliterate us at all. Why bother when we’re doing such a bang-up job of obliterating ourselves? Sure, more slowly, but with a lot less financial backing from Iran.

Our efforts, of course, are led by President Obama, who had this to say about the nuclear deal:

“I have been president and commander in chief for over six years now. Time and again I have faced decisions about whether or not to use military force. It’s the gravest decision that any president has to make. Many times in multiple countries I have had to use force, and I will never hesitate to do so when it is in our national security interest. I strongly believe that our national security interest now depends on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, which means that without a diplomatic resolution, either I or a future U.S. president would face a decision about whether or not to allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon or whether or not to use our military to stop it. But simply, no deal means a greater chance of more war in the Middle East. Moreover, we give nothing up by testing whether or not this problem can be solved peacefully.”

Forget the fact that we give up EVERYTHING by beating the dead horse of Iranian goodwill. Instead note how, in that speech snippet, President Obama used the self-seeking pronoun “I” six times and the patriotic “we” just once. Which makes sense since this deal isn’t about America at all. It’s about him.

Isn’t everything though?

With a leader like that, who needs an enemy.

Another Black-on-White Crime Goes Unlabeled

Sorry to be focusing on race again, but apparently it’s an issue.

Far from the post-racial America Barack Obama promised when first running for office, we seem to be deteriorating into an all-around racist America. Which isn’t doing us any favors.

Shocking, I know.

Despite the South Carolina church shooting that left nine dead, most of the newsworthy violence is black-on-white violence. Unless, of course, you count the thousands and thousands of blacks victimized every year in inner cities across this nation. I don’t think it’s a stretch to consider that white-on-black violence, since it’s the result of mostly white politicians playing God with “underprivileged” lives.

Not surprisingly, playing God isn’t the same thing as being God. So the result is humiliating failure in the form of broken homes and broken streets, where anything goes.

Anything like attacking a driver and her two small children because they’re white.

Around nine in the evening near the University of Chicago campus, Susan Pedersen stopped at a light after dropping a friend off. That was when several dozen young blacks surrounded her car, hurling racial slurs and telling her she didn’t belong in their neighborhood. They busted in the windows with a bicycle, showering her terrified and screaming children in glass.

Fortunately, a police car happened by, scattering the group. Two of the perpetrators were arrested, to be charged with “misdemeanor criminal damage to property.”

Ummm… Huh?

I hate to keep saying this, but if this was a bunch of white brats attacking a defenseless black family, what do you think the charges would be?

As well deserved, it would be assault. But it also would be labeled a hate crime. There’s no doubt about it. Yet it isn’t.

Why? Because we’re a racist society with a chip on our shoulders about past racist events that spur us to assuage our guilt by being racist all over again.

It’s therefore logical and accurate to conclude that, in Obama’s supposed post-racial America, white lives don’t matter. Then again, neither do black lives.

Essentially, we’re so busy focusing on race these days that we forget to focus on much else, including self-worth, dignity, justice… or the art of treating human beings like human beings.

“One Hell of an Amen” Supersedes Baltimore Nonsense

Yesterday, I opened up a Reuters article that started out with this: “Things have been a bit rough of late on the streets of Charm City, as Baltimore calls itself – much to the amusement of nearly everyone who hears those words.”

I got a good laugh at that snark, but my laughter died after I continued on in the article, which purports to detail the continuing Freddie Gray debacle, explaining it with the same old liberal mantra of victimization that’s gotten Baltimore into trouble in the first place. Cops are mean, whites are bad and Republicans are somehow, someway responsible for all the world’s evil.

(Blah blah, chirp chirp, beep beep.)

Considering how that mentality is so prevalent – and so damaging – outside of Baltimore as well as in it, it seems safe to say that we’re a mess as a state, as a country and even as a world. So much so that throwing in the towel doesn’t seem like an illogical choice.

But here’s the thing. I’ve been doing research on the latter half of the Revolutionary War for the sequel to my “Maiden America.” Between that and what I already knew, I have to point out how utterly impossible that struggle was right from the beginning.

It was filled with defeats and humiliations and depression-inducing odds and confidence-shattering betrayals. The patriots faced an overwhelming lack of funding from Congress and little help from the citizenry, who were either on the Brits’ side or on their own. That latter set celebrated each American victory, but otherwise gave their new nation little to no support.

Yet against all that, they won, securing their independence from an arrogant power that sought to debase them.

Does that mean we’re assured success today, these two hundred-plus years later, battling similarly condescending authorities? Of course not. Not in the short term, the mid-term or the long term. But there’s another term to consider that makes it worthwhile anyway: the eternal term, which I was reminded of this morning through Brantley Gilbert’s “One Hell of an Amen.”

A country song all the way, the first verse is about a soldier who “died too young over there toting that gun for Uncle Sam and our freedom.” The second records someone who contracted cancer and died of it with his head held high, fighting for life the whole way long.

And in between and around those, the chorus reads:

That’s one hell of an amen
That’s the only way to go
Fighting the good fight
‘Til the good Lord calls you home

In other words, doing the right thing? It’s worth it. No matter what it might feel like right now.

Media Keeps Lying About Immigration Problem and Race Issues

Our media bites. Big time.

Why? Because conservatives are right. Among other topics, we’re right about the racial issues plaguing this nation, and we’re right about immigration; but the masses don’t know that because the mainstream media won’t report it.

For example, in the last week alone, there’ve been three brutal crimes committed against American citizens/occupants by illegal immigrants:

·         A six-time deportee, who still managed to get into the country a seventh time, got high on pot. Then he hopped behind the wheel of a car and struck a mother and her two children, aged five and two. Both little ones were taken to the hospital, the 5-year-old with severe lacerations. The illegal immigrant? He drove off. Of course. And the mainstream media (in the form of inMaricopa.com) summed it all up with the headline “2 children injured in Papago crash.” That was in Arizona.
·         A five-time deportee, who still managed to get into the country a sixth time, strolled onto an ocean pier, seemingly selected a target at random and shot. The 32-year-old victim was taking photos with her father; she’s now dead. That was in San Francisco, California. I only found out about that one through conservative news outlets.
·         A four-time deportee, who still managed to get into the country a fifth time, decided he couldn’t stand his wife any longer and took a hammer to her head, killing her. That was down in Texas. I didn’t hear about it at all except as an aside.

Again, that’s just been in the last week. There are plenty of other serious crimes by illegal immigrants taking place around the country. It’s a pattern.

Rather like cops killing felons resisting arrest.

We hear all about those incidents, of course, especially when the cop is presumed white and the felon is black. Then it’s an issue. Then it’s an epidemic, and the mainstream media does all it can to prove that, including falsifying data and ignoring facts.

Oh yeah, and speaking of race, that race riot I wrote about yesterday? The one where a bunch of black people brutally beat up a white guy?

According to police, that wasn’t racially motivated. Looks like they’re officially gun-shy of being called racist by the press.

Good work mainstream media. You’re doing a real bang-up job.

Though something tells me you’re not going to be any happier with the results than we are.

Fourth of July Entertainment Ends in Race Riot; Young White Man Beaten Unconscious

Thanks to propaganda efforts based on actual history, most Americans are well aware of slavery and its consequences. That includes how, decades after emancipation, white mobs would string up, torture and ultimately kill young black men as entertainment. Women would bring their picnic baskets, families would gather and everyone would have a rip-roaring good time.

Except for the young black man, of course.

Today, we rightly condemn such celebrations as disgusting acts of violence. But then we take our righteous indignation a step too far and call it an indication of how white people are inherently evil and black people are inherently victims.

Which is categorically untrue.

To combat that false notion, let me present exhibit A: the picture of a young white man lying unconscious on the ground, with his face a beaten, bloody mess after dozens of young black men celebrated the Fourth of July gangsta style. Accompanying video at the holiday hip-hop and electronica concert shows onlookers laughing at the prone body of the victim.

Because, you know, 40 against one is such entertainment.

This attack happened as part of a larger riot that day. According to Gateway Pundit, two officers were also injured by people who were throwing fireworks, rocks, bottles and punches at police.

In conjunction with too many similar racial assaults as of late, a short-sighted conclusion to make from this Fourth of July celebration-gone-wrong is that black people are inherently evil and white people are inherently victims.

But look at it through the scope of history, and you’ll see whites being horrible to blacks, whites being horrible to whites, blacks being horrible to blacks, Asians being… Well, hopefully you get the picture.

Human beings of any color are capable of disgusting acts of violence when properly motivated, seizing on any excuse in order to sink to the lowest levels of depravity. Boiled down, it’s not a matter of skin pigmentation (or gender or orientation or nationality); it’s a matter of encouragement…

Encouragement toward either good or evil.

If society promotes the love of unhealthy past-times, stuck-up selfish tendencies and an obsession with immediate gratification, then guess what? Most of us will end up falling in line.

And since that’s exactly what we’re doing these days, we’re getting nothing but evil out of it.

Christianity Today Can’t Advertise to Save Its Life

I listened to that stupid Kane Show again this morning, which is why I know that the majority of women surveyed (by some poll I didn’t catch the name of) would rather have all of these characteristics in a man over religion/spirituality:

·         Hot body
·         Nice car
·         Cooking skills
·         Good sense of humor
·         Large you-know-what

A nice Christian boy just doesn’t make the cut anymore. At least not in the circles these pollsters run in. And I realized there’s a reason why: The secular world is a hell of a lot better at advertising itself than the Christian world.

It’s true! The secular world has sex and fast cars and romance and companionship and more sex. Or so it says. It also says we offer nothing but chores, rules and regulations.

So what does the Christian Church do about it? Nothing meaningful these days. That’s for sure.

Some of us try to toughen up on those rules and regulations. And yes, there are a bunch. Yet they’re not mean to be swords held over our heads. Contrary to our contender’s commercials, they’re there for our protection, not to spoil our fun.

God WANTS us to have fun. He created this world to be our playground. Saying otherwise is false advertisement, even when it’s coming from God’s people.

However, life isn’t just about instant enjoyment. There’s a healthy balance between having fun in the moment and accepting responsibility. Which brings me to the other, much larger campaign the Christian Church has going on these days.

It’s the one where we preach nothing but “love” to the masses.

Guess what? It’s just as ineffective. Because now we’re peddling God as a bad parent. The kind who tries to kiss up to our friends to be cool. Who allows us to hurt ourselves rather than set boundaries and risk us crying that we hate him. And who provides empty words of “acceptance” for our immature choices instead of challenging us to be and do our best.

Again, I have to ask: Why do we think that’s going to sell well against the sex, fast cars, romance, companionship and more sex that the other side is offering? Seriously!

The fact that we’ve been running these ads for at least a decade or two now… that we’re doubling down on them in the face of failure instead of re-strategizing?

No wonder why we’re failing to recruit anyone. It’s because we’re morons.
